Johnson Central’s dominance in soccer in the 57th district continued to shine this week, as the Golden Eagles and the Lady Eagles both made an appearance in their 57th district championships.
The boys managed a 1-0 victory over Prestonsburg Thursday night, while the Lady Golden Eagles lost 1-0 earlier in the night to Prestonsburg as well.
The Lady Golden Eagles picked up a 7-0 victory over Paintsville on Tuesday night to end the season for the Lady Tigers. The Lady Blackcats took out Sheldon Clark 3-0 to set the table for the 57th district championship. Both teams played tough, physical defenses, and with just under six minutes left in the game, Prestonsburg was able to score. Johnson Central was unable to match on offense. The loss was only the second of the season for the Lady Golden Eagles. Both Prestonsburg and Johnson Central will advance to next week’s 15th Region Tournament. Johnson Central enters with a 17-2-1 record.
Johnson Central’s boys barely escaped with a win over Paintsville that resulted in a shootout with a final score of 3-2. Prestonsburg took on Sheldon Clark who didn’t pose much of a threat in the 6-2 win.
Johnson Central met with Prestonsburg Thursday night and was able to pull off a 1-0 win over the Blackcats to move on to the 15th Region Tournament. This was only the second loss of the season for Prestonsburg. Both teams advance to next week’s 15th Region Tournament.
