The Johnson Central Golden Eagle baseball team had much success this season on the diamond. They also had one of the region’s best on the infield and the mound this season as well.
Ryley Preece, the Golden Eagles ace on the hill and starting third baseman, was recently First Team All-State by the Kentucky High School Baseball Coaches Association.
Preece was one of the KHSAA’s stat leaders in numerous categories nearly all season. He finished the season tied for 13th in hits in the state with 56 hits in 121 at bats. He was tied for 14th in two-baggers with 15 doubles in his 121 plate appearances. He also finished tied for 10th in triples with five on the season. Preece was soley in seventh place in runs scored with 57.
Preece is almost the complete player. He has the offense with his bat, but his defense with the glove is as good as any in the state. He is also one of the best in the region when he’s on the mound. The most surprising thing about Preece is, this was just his junior season. He will be back to lead the Golden Eagles next spring as they defend their 57th District title and no doubt will be in contention for the 15th Region crown once again.
