Lady Tigers get a pair of wins in All ‘A’

Paintsville’s Megan Taylor goes up for a kill against Shelby Valley in the 15th Region All “A” Classic Wednesday evening at Paintsville. The Lady Tigers picked up a 2-0 win over the Lady Wildcats.

The 15th Region All “A” Classic is underway this week, and multiple teams from the area have been seen action on the volleyball court. Paintsville hosts the tournament this year, and look to improve on last years finals loss against Pikeville.

Paintsville, 

Shelby Valley 

Paintsville picked up a 2-0 (25-10, 25-11) win over Shelby Valley in the 15th Region All “A” Classic Wednesday evening.

The Lady Tigers jumped out to an early 6-1 lead that forced Shelby Valley to take a timeout to formulate a plan. 

Shelby Valley was able to mount of an offense, getting back to a five point difference making it 13-8. 

Paintsville managed to rattle off a 12-2 run to put the first match in the books at 25-10. 

Shelby Valley got off to a good start in the next match, putting a lead on the Lady Tigers at 3-2. This would be the only lead for the Lady Kats, as Paintsville managed to pull out to a commanding lead, putting away Shelby Valley with a score of 25-11 and advancing to the next round against Phelps.

The Lady Tigers followed with a 2-0 (25-20, 25-10) win over Phelps Thursday evening in the 15th Region All “A” Classic. 

Phelps showed some serious mettle going up against Paintsville, battling back and forth for the lead on multiple occasions, proving it was anyones game to lose. Phelps got on the board first going up 0-1. Paintsville got the first lead at 3-2. Phelps fought to tie things back up at four apiece and would regain the lead 4-5. Paintsville struggled to regain control of the lead, trailing or only tying the Lady Hornets until things got to 11 apiece. The Lady Tigers managed to pull out to a small lead of 20-14. Phelps struggled to make a comeback, falling to the Lady Tigers 25-20.  The next match proved that the Lady Tigers win was no fluke. Phelps never managed to secure a lead in the second contest, ut managed to get within one point of Paintsville at 5-4. The Lady Tigers put on the heat though, and pulled out to a blistering 20-5 lead. Paintsville cruised on to a 25-10 win and advance to the next round.

Paintsville joins Jenkins and Sheldon Clark as winners in the tournament thus far. Jenkins put away Prestonsburg 2-1. Sheldon Clark defeated Piarist. Next weeks action has East Ridge facing Betsy Layne on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at Paintsville.
