The Johnson Central Golden Eagles picked up their second win of the season Friday night, as they travelled north of the border to Charleston, W. Va. to take on an always tough Capital squad. Capital couldn’t hang with the Golden Eagles in the end as they fell 28-13.

The Golden Eagles also picked up a big win in their first game of the season, dismantling Class 6A Lafayette 49-12 on August 23rd. Johnson Central continued their juggernaut offense and defense as they never trailed against Capital Friday night.

Senior quarterback Ryley Preece was three of four through the air for 112 yards and two passing touchdowns.

Devin Johnson led the Golden Eagles on the ground. In his 14 attempts he ran for 90 yards. Dillon Preston rushed for 63 yards on 10 attempts. Bryce Tackett would add 37 yards on six attempts. Preece ran for 34 yards on nine attempts and two scores. Cody Rice would round out rushing with 25 yards on eight carries.

Preece threw to just three wide outs on the night. Seth Daulton had one reception for 76 yards. Cody Rice also had one reception for 21 yards. Keygan Pelfrey also finished with one reception for 15 yards. Kicker Jake Headley was a perfect four for four on extra point kicks.

On the defensive side of the ball, Mason LeMaster led Johnson Central with eight tackles. Dillion Preston would finish with seven tackles. Devon Johnson and Hunter McCloud each had six tackles for the game. Braiden Castle finished the game with five tackles. Jacob Cain and Grant Rice each had two tackles for the game. Tyler Holbrook, Mason Lawson, Matt Crum, Andrew Burchett and Cody Rice all had one tackle for the game. Hunter McCloud forced a fumble during the game, and Andrew Burchett recovered a fumble on the game in the win.

Johnson Central will have a Bye Week this week, before traveling back to the Mountain State to take on South Charleston on September 13th for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
