BELFRY — Johnson Central came out focused.
When the smoke settled, the Golden Eagles picked up a 53-16 win over Belfry in the regular season finale.
Cody Rice opened the game with a 53-yard TD on the second play from scrimmage. Jake Headly followed with the extra-point as the Golden Eagles jumped out to a 7-0 lead with 11:11 left in the first quarter.
After forcing a Belfry punt, Headly added a 21-yard field goal to push the lead to 10-0.
The Golden Eagles followed with an onside-kick recovery. Quarterback Ryley Preece followed with the TD to push the lead to 17-0.
After a Belfry fumble, Preece found Devin Johnson for a long TD pass as the lead grew to 24-0.
Belfry finally got on the board late in the first half, but in the final seconds, Preece broke another long TD run and the Golden Eagles controlled the game and held a 32-8 halftime lead.
The Golden Eagles kept the pressure on in the second half.
With the win, Johnson Central finished the regular season with a 10-0 record.
The Golden Eagles also take a 7-6 lead in the rivalry against Belfry since they started playing in 2007.
Johnson Central will enter the Class 4A playoffs at home next week against Letcher Central.
