Golden Eagles dominate Region 8 meet

Johnson Central’s Ronnie (Blue) Fletcher wrestles with a Bourbon County wrestler Saturday at Johnson Central during the Region 8 championship. The Golden Eagles dominated the meet and won going away. Johnson Central will be competing at the state wrestling championship this weekend in Lexington. 

Johnson Central won the Region 8 wrestling title.

The Golden Eagles cruised to the first place win with a score of 309.0. Harrison County finished second and Sheldon Clark came in third overall in Region 8.

Johnson Central’s Nick Giompalo won the 106 pound division by beating Montgomery County’s Nolan Banfield in the championship match.

Johnson Central’s Dalton Lawson won the 113 pound division by defeating Sheldon Clark’s Andrew Vogeler. 

Johnson Central stayed strong and Jacob Cain captured the 120 pound championship by defeating Bourbon County’s Isaac French.

Johnson Central’s Ronnie (Blue) Fletcher won the 132 pound division knocking off Bourbon County’s Sheridan Wiloughby.

Joe Jackson won the 170 pound division for the Golden Eagles by knocking off Ashland Blazer’s Jack Latherow.

Johnson Central’s Matt Horn won the 195 pound division by beating Sheldon Clark’s Branson Smith.

Alex Horn wouldn’t be outdone by his twin brother as he brought home the 220 pound championship by knocking off Letcher Central’s Joseph Fisher.

Johnson Central’s Byron Pierce brought home the heavyweight title by knocking off Ashland Blazer’s John Stone in the championship.

Jayden Webb finished in second place at the 126 pound division for Johnson Central. Reece Goss also finished second place in the 138 pound division. Levid Rodriguez placed second in the 182 pound division and Nick Stapleton brought home silver in the 160 pound division. 

Matthew Spradlin finished third in 152 pound division for Johnson Central. Bladen Sexton finished fourth in the 145 pound division.

Johnson Central advances to the state championship this weekend in Lexington.
