As the 2019 57th District Soccer Tournament got under way Monday night, Prestonburg blanked the Martin County Cardinals 10-0 and two arch rivals went at it as Johnson Central was the home team on the scoreboard against the Paintsville Lady Tigers in lady’s action with the Lady Golden Eagles moving on 6-1 to the 57th championship to face Prestonsburg Thursday night.
Paintsville and Johnson Central met just a few weeks ago on September 10th. The Lady Golden Eagles escaped that one, 1-0.
Lauren Johnson paced the Lady Golden Eagles with three goals. She also added an assist to finish with seven points on the night. She was followed by Cleo Wells with two goals. She added an assist as well to end the night with five points. Lexi Scarburry scored a goal and an assist in the win as she ended the evening with three points. Haley Lykins added an assist and Chloe Dyer had seven saves in the Johnson Cenral victory.
The Lady Golden Eagles move on to Thursday’s championship game against Prestonsburg on their home field.
The Lady Black Cats are 17-2 on the season. They are 12-0 against regional opponents, and also 7-0 in district play. Prestonburg’s RPI is .655. According to the KHSAA, the Lady Black Cats are the top team in the 15th region.
Johnson Central is just behind them at 13-3 on the year. The Lady Golden Eagles are 7-1 against regional foes and 4-1 against district opponents.
Johnson Central’s RPI sits currently at .598. These two got together earlier in the season with Prestonsburg defeating the Lady Golden Eagles 8-2.
Thursday’s championship is set for 6:30 p.m. The Boys’ 57th District Tournament kicks off tonight at Johnson Central with Prestonburg playing Martin County at 6:30 p.m. and once again, Paintsville vs Johnson Central in the nightcap at 8:00 p.m.
