Graveside services will be held Friday, Feb. 22, 1 p.m.  at the Burton Cemetery at Ligon, for Garyson James Robert Bailey, infant son of Zach Bailey and Felicia Miller of Thelma, who died Tuesday, Feb. 19 at King’s Daughters Regional Medical Center in Ashland.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 21, 2 p.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for James Donald Music, 48, of Stambaugh, who died Monday, Feb. 18 at his residence.

Burial was in the Highland Memorial Park Cemetery at Staffordsville.

Mary Osborn

1925-2019

Mary Ellen Ison Osborn, of Ashland, died Friday, Feb. 20, 2019 in Ironton, Ohio. 

She was born March 14,1925 in Morgan County. She was preceded in death by her parents, Isaac and Leota Adkins Ison; husband, Wendell Osborn; brothers, Major, Glen (Dot), Bradford (Wanderine), Isaac Jr. and sister-in-law, Jeanine Walengar.

She is survived by her daughters, Sharon Carpenter (Ken) and Wendella Bowers; brother, Paul Ison (Barbara); sister-in-law, Lou Ison; granddaughters, Kendra Carpenter (John Dean), Sara Duvall (Kris); great-grandsons, Evan Wilburn (Rachel), Trace Elliot and great-granddaughter, Sahara Wilburn.

She attended Morehead State College and was a teacher for a few years. She was the oldest member of Paint Primitive Baptist Church. She was a life member of the Disabled American Veteran Auxiliary. 

Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 25, 2019 at Miller Funeral Home, Ashland, by Chaplain Randy Tate officiating. Burial will follow at the Highland Memorial Park Cemetery at Staffordsville.

Bonnie Pitts

1950-2019

Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 21, 12 p.m. at the Big Mud Lick Church of God at Staffordsville, for Bonnie Jean Pitts, 68, of Van Lear, who died Monday, Feb. 18 at Highlands Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg.

Burial was in the Gethsemane Gardens in Prestonsburg.

Nell Smith

1924-2019

Nell D. Smith, age 94, formerly of Paintsville, died Friday, Feb. 15 in Winchester.

She was born Dec. 16, 1924 in Ashland, daughter of the late Lucian and Ruth Walters Burke. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Smith (1999). 

Nell was a member of the First Christian Church and a homemaker. 

Surviving are one daughter, Robin Smith Castle (Larry) Notton of Winchester; one brother, William Rittenhouse Burke of Savannah, Ga.; one sister, Irene Clower of Jacksonville, Fla.; and two grandsons, Joshua Castle of Paintsville, and Daniel Castle of Ft. Mitchell.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, Feb. 19, 1 p.m. at the Ashland Cemetery in Ashland, with Venny Vanhoose officiating. At the family’s request, there was no formal visitation.

Hansford Stapleton

1956-2019

Memorial services will be held at a later date for Hansford Ray “Hank” Stapleton, 63, of Summersville, W. Va., who died Wednesday, Feb. 20 at his residence.

Mr. Stapleton was born June 10, 1956 in Johnson County, son of the late Curtis and Hazel Williams Stapleton. He was also preceded in death by one brother, James A. Stapleton.

Surviving are his wife, Mary of Summersville; three children, James Stapleton of Paintsville, Tina Stapleton of New Orleans, La., and Hansford Stapleton Jr., of Summersville; two brothers, Frank Stapleton of Florida and Curtis Calvin Stapleton of Tutor Key; three sisters, Nina Hall of Paintsville, Amanda Reeseman of Georgetown, and Letha VanHoose of Berea; eight grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
