Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 4, 1 p.m. at the Van Lear Free Will Baptist Church for Ricky A. Blair, age 69, of Van Lear, who died Friday, Nov. 1 at Salyersville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born Jan. 31, 1950 in Paintsville, son of Lois Lynn Blair of Van Lear, and the late Henry Blair. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Brenda Blair.

Surviving in addition to his mother are four brothers, Tom Blair of Salyersville, Roger Blair and Gary Blair, both of Van Lear and Tony Blair of Oil Springs; and one sister, Tama Johnson of Wabash, Ind.

The service was officiated by Paul Wayne Browning, with burial in the Highland Memorial Park Cemetery at Staffordsville.

Arrangements under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home Chapel of Paintsville.

Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 4, 11 a.m. at the Phelps & Son Funeral Home Chapel for William “Bill” Carpenter Jr., age 89, of Staffordsville, who died Friday, Nov. 1 at his residence.

Mr. Carpenter was born Sept. 29, 1930 in Chicot County, Ark., son of the late William E. and Jessie Yearian Carpenter. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Lucy Carpenter; and one son, William Edgar Carpenter II. Bill was a coal truck driver and a veteran of the United States Army.

Surviving are, his wife, Mary Price Carpenter; two sons, Mike (Melissa) Carpenter and Billy (Susan) Carpenter; two daughters, Ann (Ronnie) Grimm and Delores (Terry) Hayden; grandchildren, Rhedonda and Nate Kelly, and Rayven and Madison Carpenter; and one great-grandchild, Matthew Little.

Military services were held by Chapter 18 D.A.V. of Auxier.

Burial was in the Highland Memorial Park Cemetery at Staffordsville.

Former Johnson County Judge Executive, Roger T. “Tucker” Daniel, age 80, of Staffordsville, died Saturday, Nov. 2 at St. Joseph Health Care Facility in Lexington.

He was born Aug. 30, 1939 in Johnson County, son of the late Carl Daniel and Frances I. Colvin Short. He was also preceded in death by his grandmother, Lizzie Colvin, who raised him; and one sister, Deanna Hickman Falcon.

Surviving are his wife, Page Brickley Daniel of Staffordsville; two sons, Roger D. (Margaret) Daniel of Georgetown, and Scott Daniel of Staffordsville; five grandchildren, John Thomas Daniel, Scott Triplett Daniel, Kash Daniel, Julia Page Daniel and Samuel Roger Daniel; one brother, Jimmy Ray (Deb) Short of New Carlisle, Ohio; three sisters, Debbie Kay (Dan) Wheeler and Joan Cox, both of New Carlisle, and Beverly (Ken) Davis of Beaver Creek, Ohio; several nieces, nephews and a host of special friends.

Mr. Daniel was Johnson County Judge Executive from 200-2019 and former President of Kentucky West Virginia Gas Company.

The service was held Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2 p.m. with Seth Carter officiating.

Burial was in the Highland Memorial Park Cemetery at Staffordsville.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that contributions be made to the Johnson County Senior Citizens Program or the Paintsville Little League by contacting the Phelps & Son Funeral Home at (606) 789-8989.

Terri Lynn Hovatter Lusk, age 69, died November 3, 2019 at her home in Louisville.

She is survived by her loving husband, David, and her children, Charles (Sara Beth), Matthew, Heidi (Bryon) and Nora Ellen; five grandchildren and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 9 at Christ Church United Methodist, 4614 Brownsboro Lane, Louisville.

Visitation will be at 9:30 until the time of the funeral.

Marthalene Phelps Preston, age 89, of Paintsville, died Monday, October 28, 2019 at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center in Paintsville.

She was born Dec. 16, 1929 in Johnson County, the daughter of the late Bruce and Laura Belle Webb Phelps. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband, Harold Lloyd Preston; two brothers, Bruce Alvis Phelps and Denzel Phelps; and one sister, Ernestine Blair.

Surviving are one son, David Bruce (Marie) Preston of Versailles; two daughters, Susie (Paul) Greer and Cheryl Ann Preston, both of Paintsville; and two grandchildren, Jarrett Greer of Las Vegas, Nev., and Lauren Clark of Louisville.

Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 1, 2019 at the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with Aaron Davis and Jeff White officiating.

Burial was in the Highland Memorial Park Cemetery at Staffordsville.
