John Adams Jr.

1943-2019

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 16, 11 a.m. at the Phelps & Son Funeral Home Chapel for John W. Adams Jr., 75, of Whitehouse, who died Sunday, Jan. 13 at his residence.

Mr. Adams was born Feb. 5, 1943 in Johnson County, son of the late John W. and Margaret Adkins Adams. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one brother, James Henry Adams; five sisters, Helen Mollette, Lou Ida Burke, Maudie Duty, Mable Meek, and Colista Adams.

Surviving are his wife, Judy Jude Adams; one son Tim (Patty) Adams of Paintsville; one daughter, Robin (Russell) Halsey of Campton; two step-sons, Clarence (Jessica) Dye of Inez and John (Debra) Dye of Pilgrim; two brothers, Clell Adams of Charley and Herbert Ray Adams of Elkhorn City; seven grandchildren, Kyle Bradley (Ashley) Adams  and Kellye (Jared) Murray, both of Paintsville, and Kaitlyn Halsey and Jacob Halsey, both of Campton; two great-grandchildren, Aubrey Adams and Sebastian Adams, both of Paintsville.

The service was officiated by Dave Blevins, with burial to follow in the Adams Family Cemetery at Whitehouse.

Emma Castle

1966-2019

Emma Jean Castle, age 52, of Paintsville, died Friday, Jan. 11 at her residence.

She was born Jan. 21, 1966 in Paintsville to Corbitt Burns and Charlotte Meade.

 In addition to her parents, she is survived by one daughter, Clesta Dawn Jackson; one brother, Anthony Corbitt Burns; a special friend, Deborah Burns; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were scheduled for 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 16 in the chapel of the Preston Funeral Home with Arthur Todd Scarberry officiating.

Interment will be in the Lakeview Memorial Cemetery at Staffordsville.

Hager Caudill

1924-2019

Hager Caudill, age 94, of Falcon Road in Salyersville, died Thursday, Jan. 10 at his residence.

He was born in 1924 to Charlie and Gracie Arms Caudill in Johnson County. He was retired from C & O Railroad and an Army Veteran of WWII. He was a member of the State Road United Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Hager is preceded in death by his first wife, Opal Honeycutt Caudill; one daughter, Connie Coppeler; one son, David Caudill; two grandsons, Mitchel Pachuta and Matthew Scott Conley; one granddaughter, Sarah Ashley Blanton; one great-grandchild; two brothers, James Edward Caudill and Kirk Caudill; and two sisters, Genoa Ethel Williams and Marie Rice.

Hager is survived by his wife, Patsy Blanton Caudill of Salyersville; three daughters, Linda (Mark) Pachuta of Indiana, Donna (Ronnie) Copley and Dana (Bryan) Taylor, both of Johnson County; one son, Daryl (Valerie) Blanton of Johnson County, one son-in-law, Dallas Coppeler of Pemberville, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 13 at the Paintsville Funeral Home with John Blanton and Phillip Caudill officiating. Burial was in the Troy Township Cemetery at Luckey, Ohio.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the State Road United Baptist Church by contacting the Paintsville Funeral Home.

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 14, 4 p.m. at the King Memorial Home in Mentone, Ind., for Prestica  “Trish” Ann Daniels, 65, of rural Rochester, Ind., who died Wednesday, Jan. 9 at her residence.

A private burial was at the Harrison Center Cemetery at Etna Green, Ind.

Helen Harmon

1942-2019

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 17, 11 a.m. at the Phelps & Son Funeral Home Chapel for Helen P. Harmon, age 76, of Paintsville, who died Sunday, Jan. 13 at UK Hospital in Lexington.

Helen was born Dec. 17, 1942 in Paintsville, daughter of the late Glen and Marie Tackett Pelphrey. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Quill “Dickie” Harmon (1983); one daughter, Kitty Harmon; and one grandson, Ryan Adam Harmon.

Surviving are one son, Dwane (Ursal) Harmon of Charleston, S. C.; two daughters, Shelia Harmon of Paintsville, and Teresa Harmon of North Carolina; two brothers, Glen “Buddy” Pelphrey of Van Lear and Hank Pelphrey of Paintsville; three sisters, Barbara Vanhoose of Urbana, Ohio, Wanda Adkins of New Carlisle, Ohio, and Mary Meek of Tutor Key; seven grandchildren, Amy C. Harmon, Ashton Denise Bishop, Stephen R. Harmon, Aaron Foster Blevins, Katie B. Harmon, Anna-Marie Sanchez, and  Rebekah Marie Roe; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Tuesday, Jan. 14, 4-9 p.m. and Wednesday, Jan. 15, - a.m.-9 p.m.

The service will be officiated by Ben Stephens, with burial in the Highlands Memorial Park Cemetery at Staffordsville.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 19, 3 p.m. at the Southside Free Will Baptist Church for James Charles “Jim” Herchenrider, 64, of Paintsville, who died Thursday, Jan. 17 at his residence.

Mr. Herchenrider was born Sept. 23, 1954 in Philadelphia, Penn., son of the late Richard Charles and Norma West Herchenrider. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Bruce Herchenrider.

Surviving are two sons, Marty (Stephanie) Daniel and Troy Daniel, both of Paintsville; one daughter, Havalenna Meade of Paintsville; two brothers, Bob (Diane) Herchenrider of Roanoke, Va., and John Herchenrider of Sitka, Ala.; the mother of his children, Gwen Daniel of Paintsville; seven grandchildren, Johnathan Daniel, Jacob Samples, Haylyn Fannin, Santana Fannin, Isaac Daniel, Shane Daniel and Breanna Horn; two great-grandchildren, Sophia Daniel and Skylar Daniel; one niece, Maggie (Dan) gold; one nephew, Robert (Jenny) Herchenrider; and a host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends also survive.

Jim was a proud member of the Johnson County Jeep Club.

The service will be officiated by Wayne Price.

Dewey Mullins 

1949-2019

Dewey Mac Mullins, age 69, of Meally, died Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

Dewey Mac was born July 19, 1949 in Johnson County, son of the late Dewey and Emalene Preston Mullins. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one sister, Lorena Gay Mullins.

Dewey Mac is survived by his wife, Priscilla Terry Mullins; two sons, Jimmy (Jennifer) Mullins of Staffordsville and Billy (Tina Jo) Mullins of Salyersville; one daughter, Sherri Lyn (Ed) Helmond of Midway; two brothers, Jimmy Mullins of Red Bush and Jerry Mullins of Meally; and four grandchildren, Brodie Mullins, Cody Mullins, Ryan Mullins, and Katie Helmond.

Funeral services were conducted 11a.m. Friday, January 11, 2019 in the Jones-Preston Funeral Chapel with C.J. Tackett and John Blanton officiating. Burial followed in the Highland Memorial Park, Staffordsville.

Masonic services were conducted 6 p.m. Thursday, January 10, 2019 by Van Lear Lodge F&AM 885.

Ray Ratliff

Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 11, 12 p.m. at the Phelps & Son Funeral Home Chapel for Ray W. Ratliff, age 76, of Hagerhill, who died Tuesday, Jan. 8 at River Health Care Center in Prestonsburg.

Mr. Ratliff was born July 14, 1942 in Johnson County, son of the late Ellis and Edna Blair Ratliff. He was a retired coal miner. He was also preceded in death by one son, Michael Ray Ratliff; two brothers, Henry and Kenneth Estill Ratliff; and one sister, Geneva Ratliff.

Surviving are his wife, Rose Hamilton Ratliff; one son, Gary Michael (Danielle) Ratliff of Hagerhill; two daughters, Linda Jo (Ronald) Meek of Hagerhill and Misty (Scott) Hall of Grethel; one brother, Elmon Ratliff of Hagerhill; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The service was officiated by Ronnie Spriggs, with burial in the Ellis Ratliff Cemetery at Hagerhill.

Raymond Webb

Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 17, 12 p.m. at the Paintsville Funeral Home Chapel for Raymond Addison “Ray-Ray” Webb, 37, of Paintsville, who died Monday, Jan. 14 at UK Medical Center in Lexington.

Ray was the son of  Ramona Webb of Paintsville and the Onda Webb. He was a 1999 graduate of Johnson Central High School and attended the University of Pikeville. He was a retired exterminator with Absolute Exterminating.

He was preceded in death by his father, Onda Webb; his paternal grandparents, Jonathan “Pap” and Cava Webb; and his maternal grandparents, Raymond and Garcie Caudill Spradlin.

Surviving in addition to his mother are, his wife, Regina Fay Webb; one son, Mikey Castle-Webb, that he affectionately referred to as “His Boy”; one brother, Jonathan Oakley (Beth) Webb of Berea; one sister, Heather Elizabeth (Tommy) Oney of Salyersville; father-in-law, Johnny Rigsby of Paintsville; brother-in-law, Ricky Rigsby of Paintsville; sister-in-law, Erica (Seth) Hanigan of Winchester; special nieces, Olivia Webb and August Tackett; and special nephews, Nicholas Oney, Zander Tackett and Amos Jackson; and a host of friends and neighbors.

The service was officiated by Tim Salyer and Sammy Reed, with burial in the Baldwin Cemetery at Oil Springs.

Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 18, 11 a.m. at the Southside Free Will Baptist Church for Joan Carol Ball Williams, age 67, of Paintsville, who died Tuesday, Jan. 15 at her residence.

Mrs. Williams was born June 17, 1951 in Paintsville, daughter of Virginia Turner Ratliff of Paintsville and the late Sidney Elder Ball. In addition to her father, she is preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Michael Williams.

Surviving in addition to her mother are, three sons, Brian Christopher Williams of Supply, N.C., Edward Matthew (Amy) Williams of Paintsville, and Michael Sean (Tammie) Williams of River; one brother, John G. (Carrie) Ball of Ocala, Fla.; one sister, Paula (David) Peters of Paintsville; seven grandchildren, Seth Williams, Abigail Williams, Lizzie Williams, Kelsey Williams, Leah Rowland, Amy Jennings, and  Jessica Humphrey; three great-grandchildren, Ashtyn Williams, Jakson Meek, and Jace Jennings.

The service was officiated by Wayne Price, with burial in the Johnson County Memorial Cemetery at Staffordsville.
