Chandler Castle

1979-2018

Lucinda Chandler Castle, age 39 of Staffordsville, died Wednesday September 26, 2018. She was born March 21, 1979 to Richard and Venice Daniel Chandler.

Lucinda was a member of the Walnut Grove Free Will Baptist Church and an E. R. registrar for Three Rivers Hospital in Louisa.

Along with her parents, Lucinda is survived by her husband Robert Castle Jr., her twin sons Brayden Chandler Castle and Hayden Daniel Castle, one sister: Amanda (Jamie) Adams of Louisa, KY, and two nephews: Colin Adams and Jase Adams. 

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 19, at the Walnut Grove Free Will Baptist Church, with James VanHoose officiating. Burial followed in the Riverview Cemetery at Louisa, KY.

Joyce Pack Hall

1951-2018

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 17, 11 a.m. at the Phelps & Son Funeral Home Chapel for Joyce Pack “Joy” Hall, 67, of Van Lear, who died Sunday, Oct. 12 at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.

Joyce was born September 14, 1951 in Johnson County, daughter of the late Walter and Mayme Maria Stapleton Pack. She was also preceded in death by her two sons, Aaron Ray and Gary Lee Sublett.

Surviving are one brother, Ronald Pack of Stambaugh; and four sisters, Mary Blair of West Van Lear, Jean Trimble of Orlando, Fla., Gayle McKenzie of Sunbury, Ohio, and Charlotte Hall of Paintsville. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins, family members, and friends.

The service will be officiated by Larry Blair, with burial to follow in the Pack-Chandler Cemetery at Chandlersville.

Fredrick 

Shell Hannah

1930-2018

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2 p.m. at the Phelps & Son Funeral Home Chapel for Fredrick Shell Hannah, 87, of Hagerhill, who died Sunday, Oct. 14 at his residence.

Mr. Hannah was born Dec. 19, 1930 in Johnson County, son of the late Proctor and Mahala Shell Hannah. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Farrell Hannah; and two sisters, Armina Vandale and Venus Irene Prichard.

Fred was a proud veteran of the United States Army and also served in the Big Sandy Chapter 18 DAV of Auxier. He was a member of the Paintsville Masonic Lodge No. 381, F & AM; and a member of the Rockhouse Free Will Baptist Church.

Surviving are his loving wife, Edna Bigger Hannah; three sons, Michael Dwight Hannah of Hagerhill, Ronald Dean (Robin) Hannah of Florida, and Donald Eugene Hannah of Pikeville; five daughters, Jacqueline (Ronnie) Robinson of Hagerhill, Karen Ann (Dwight) Crider of Prestonsburg, Tina Marie (Keith) Powers and Kathy Lynn (Mike) Harless, both of Hagerhill, and Rhonda Gail Hannah of Paintsville; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

The service will be officiated by James Kelly Caudill, Jim McKenzie and Richard William, with military honors conducted by the Big Sandy Chapter 18 DAV of Auxier. Masonic services were held Tuesday, Oct. 16, 7 p.m. 

Burial will be in the Highland Memorial Park Cemetery at Staffordsville.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, Oct. 20, 11 a.m. at the Lakeville Baptist Church in Salyersville, for James M. Lyon, 76, of Salyersville, who died Sunday, Oct. 14 at UK Medical Center in Lexington.

John A. Ross

1975-2018

Funeral services were held Monday, October 15, 1 p.m. at the Phelps & Son Funeral Home for John A. Ross, 42, of Connersville, Indiana, formerly of Johnson County, who died Tuesday, Oct. 9 at Indiana University Hospital in Indianapolis, Ind.

Burial was in the family cemetery at Oil Springs.

Robert Eugene Short

1933-2018

Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 15, 11 a.m. at the Wilson Funeral Home in Louisa, for Robert Eugene Short, 85, of Ulysses, who died Thursday, October 11 at his residence.

Mr. Short was born Oct. 7, 1933 in Louisa, son of the late Taylor and Millie Dalton Short. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth A. Short.

He was a retired coal miner for Martin County Coal and of the United Baptist faith. He loved his family, walking, attending church, coon hunting, and being outdoors.

Surviving are his wife, Sally Dalton Short; two daughters, Sharron Winegardner (Thomas) Glenford, Ohio, and Samantha (Roy) Blakeman of Ulysses; one son, Robert (Peggy) Short of Louisa; three step-daughters, Mary Sue (James) Daniels of Paintsville, Sharon (Tony) Blanton of Flat Gap, and Sherry Bush of Paintsville; one step-son, Joe (Debbie) Howard of Ulysses; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

The service was officiated by Rev. James VanHoose, with burial in the Yatesville Memorial Gardens.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 16, 11 a.m. at the Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Lacy Trusty Jr., 59, of Oil Springs, who died Friday, Oct. 12 at his residence.

Burial was in the Trusty Cemetery at Oil Springs.
