David Blair

1936-2014

David Lee Blair, age 76, of New Lebanon, Ohio, died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014 at Hospice of Dayton.  

David was born May 26, 1936 in Paintsville, to the late Nola Blair. He is survived by his children, David (Cathy) Blair of Lawrenceburg, Susann (Mark) Barrett of Hilliard, Ohio, and Gloria Nicci Blair Sliemers of Grove City, Ohio; grandchildren, Rhiannon, Ian, Stephanie and Alec, and close friend, Carolyn.

David was a 1956 graduate of Paintsville High School and a Korean War veteran with the US Army. He was a valued employee of DP & L for 36 years before retiring. David also served as a part-time peace officer for the Carlisle Police Department. He was also a Kentucky Colonel; member of the American Legion, VFW, Eagles and Moose and enjoyed following NASCAR, the Cleveland Browns and the University of Kentucky Wildcats. 

A Celebration Gathering was held Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014 at Dayton National Cemetery-Columbarium with military honors.

Sharon Conley

1947-2019

Sharon K. Conley, age 71, of Oil Springs, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 21, 2019. 

Sharon was born October 18, 1947, daughter of the late Paul and Pink Picklesimer Prater of Johnson County. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Paul Michael Prater; and one sister, Linda Sue Dyer.

She is survived by her loving husband, Larry Conley; and two sons, Mike (Rebecca) Conley and Greg (Linda) Conley; and one step-son, Larry (Tracy) Conley; one sister, Mary Carol (Johnny) VanHoose; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 25 at 1 p.m. at the Paintsville Funeral Home, with burial in the Conley Family Cemetery at Oil Springs.

Lynda Pelphrey

1949-2019

Lynda Faye Frasier Pelphrey was called to her heavenly home on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2019 at 6 p.m.

Lynda was born to Albert “Jack” and Ruby Bumbalough Frasier on Dec. 19, 1949 in Tennessee. The family later moved to Dayton, Ohio, where Lynda met her husband-to-be, George “Butch” Pelphrey. They were married on Feb. 14, 1969, after he finished his period in the US Army. She was the mother to four beautiful girls. She was a loving, faithful, and kind Christian woman who attended church every time she was able. She was also a cancer survivor. She was a strong woman who took care of her family first, but never failed to lend a helping hand to those in need.

Lynda was preceded in death by both of her parents, Albert and Ruby Frasier; her step-mom, Wilene Frasier, and her husband, George Pelphrey; and her sister, Diana Frasier Marion.

Lynda is survived by her daughters, Donna Gayle Pelphrey and Louie Stambaugh, Katherine Marie Pelphrey and Jimmy Dick, Rebecca Karen Pelphrey and Ed Gorman, and Killie Ilene Pelphrey Blackburn; and eight grandchildren, Joseph Wayne and Katie Butcher Stambaugh, Ava Marie Pelphrey-Dick, Michael Xander Blackburn, Brandon Clark Blackburn, Nathaniel Franklin Gorman, Anna Marie Wolfe, William Zachary Wolfe; one great-grandchild, Aubrey Lashea Stambaugh; three brothers, and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and aunts and uncles.

Linda was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend to everyone she knew. She will be missed by all that loved her.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 23, 12 p.m. at the Ramey Branch Church, with Denvil Mollette officiating. Burial was in the Johnson County Memorial Park Cemetery at Staffordsville.

Janet Salyer

1940-2019

Janet Conley Salyer, age 78, walked in faith from April 17, 1940, until she departed us and entered Heaven on February 18, 2019. Born to the late Ollie Blanton Conley and Ralph Conley. She was a long-time member of the Eastside Free Will Baptist Church. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Anita (Jody) Picklesimer. 

She leaves behind her husband, Raymond; his son, David Wren (Cheryl), Janet and Ramond’s children, Tony Salyer and Lisa Lannon (Dustin); and grandchildren, Karina, David, Logan, Lariah, and Seven. Also survived by her siblings, Karen Sue Duncan, Sharon (Wade) Cantrell, Larry (Jean) Conley, Norvan Conley and Paul (Connie) Conley; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Janet will be missed by everyone who knew her, and will hold on to all the special memories forever.

Graveside services were held Friday, Feb. 22 at the Jayne Memorial Cemetery at Staffordsville.

Hansford Stapleton

1956-2019

Memorial services will be held at a later date for Hansford Ray “Hank” Stapleton, 63, of Summersville, W. Va., who died Wednesday, Feb. 20 at his residence.

Mr. Stapleton was born June 10, 1956 in Johnson County, son of the late Curtis and Hazel Williams Stapleton. He was also preceded in death by one brother, James A. Stapleton.

Surviving are his wife, Mary of Summersville; three children, James Stapleton of Paintsville, Tina Stapleton of New Orleans, La., and Hansford Stapleton Jr., of Summersville; two brothers, Frank Stapleton of Florida and Curtis Calvin Stapleton of Tutor Key; three sisters, Nina Hall of Paintsville, Amanda Reeseman of Georgetown, and Letha VanHoose of Berea; eight grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
