Emma Blanton

1922-2019

Emma Jean Blanton, age 96, of Staffordsville, went home to be with the Lord on March 2, 2019.

Emma was born November 30, 1922 to Hoy and Minnie McKenzie Vanhoose in Johnson County.

She is preceded in death by both of her parents, Hoy and Minnie McKenzie Vanhoose of Johnson County; husband, Johnnie Blanton of Tutor Key; one son, James Paul Blanton of Tutor Key; one daughter, Bonnie Sue Blanton of Louisville; two brothers, Hoy “Bug” Vanhoose Jr. of Florida, and Harry Thomas Vanhoose of Tutor Key; three sisters, Deloris Witten and Helen Francis Gray, both of Paintsville and Ida Mae Grim of Tutor Key; and one granddaughter, Adrian Hope Murry of Meally.

Surviving are two daughters, Jonna (Jim Bob) Murry and Betty Lou VanHoose, both of Staffordsville; seven grandchildren and three step-grandchildren, along with five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 6, 11 a.m., with John Blanton and Freddy Salyer officiating.

Burial followed in the Highland Memorial Park Cemetery at Staffordsville.

Arrangements under the direction of the Paintsville Funeral Home.

Sarah Johnson

1945-2019

Sarah Grace Rice Johnson, age 73, of Oil Springs, died Monday, March 4, 2019 at her residence.

Mrs. Johnson was born September 5, 1945 in Johnson County, daughter of the late Ellis and Madge Conley Rice. Also preceding her in death was her loving husband, Otis Johnson; six brothers, Melvin Rice, Harry Rice, David Rice, George Harold Rice, Elmer Rice and Roger Rice; and three sisters, Mildred Rice, Mary Whiteside, and Marion Howard.

She is survived by two sons, James E. Johnson of Oil Springs, and Otis Johnson Jr. of Washington Courthouse, Ohio; one daughter, Kathryn K. Potter of Washington Courthouse; one brother, Walter F. Rice of Mt. Sterling, Ohio; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 9, 1 p.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Evelyn Carol Lemaster Lafferty, 76, of Paintsville, who died Thursday, March 7 at Mountain Manor of Paintsville.

Burial will be in the Lakeview Memorial Cemetery at Staffordsville.

Maxine Pratt

1931-2019

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 5, 2019 for Maxine Arnett Pratt, age 87, of Staffordsville, who died Saturday, March 2 at her residence.

Mrs. Pratt was born June 30, 1931 in Magoffin County, daughter of the late Ruben and Mattie Lovely Arnett. She was also preceded in death by husband, Jim Pratt; two brothers, Dewey and Roy Arnett; two sisters, Alka Montgomery and Faye Brown; and one great-grandchild, Amy Castle.

Surviving are two daughters, Donna Sue (Fred) Ratliff of West Van Lear and Joan Carol Pratt (Rocky Blevins) of Staffordsville; two grandchildren, Patty (Henderson) Jude of Debord, and Kelli Ratliff of West Van Lear; and one great-grandchild, Chris Castle.

The service was officiated by Ronnie Spriggs, with burial in the Highland Memorial Park Cemetery at Staffordsville.

Private funeral services will be held Saturday, March 9, 1 p.m. at the Phelps & Son Funeral Home Chapel for Ellis H. Robinson, 89, of Paintsville who died Wednesday, March 6 at the Lee County Care and Rehabilitation Center in Beattyville.

Mr. Robinson was born April 2, 1929 in Boyd County.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, and several brothers and sisters.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Kimbler Robinson; one son, James Michael Robinson of Boone, N. C.; two step-sons; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 9, 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

The service will be officiated by Toby Wheeler, with burial in the Highland Memorial Park Cemetery at Staffordsville.

Burial was in the Brown Cemetery at River.
