Scotty Akers


Scotty Rex Akers age 78 of Flat Gap, passed away Sunday, November 3, 2019 at Pikeville Medical Center.  He was born on September 15, 1941 to the late McKinnley and Melissa Little Akers.  He was retired from Orkin.

Other than his parents he was preceded in death by seven brothers; Woody Akers, James Akers, Allen Akers, Bruce Akers, Jack Akers, Clifford Akers, Bill Akers; and three sisters, Wanda “Dot” Justice, Ruth Hooper and JoAnn “Sis” Cunningham.

He is survived by his companion; Marlene Caudill; three sons, Scotty Burt Akers of Elkhorn, Patrick Timothy (Natasha) Akers of Chesapeake, Ohio, Justin Hugh Akers of Nashville; two daughters, Roschele Monique (Kevin) Martin of Johns Creek, Stephanie  (Scott) Bunyard of West Van Lear, one sister; Thelma Adams of Little Robinson; and two special granddaughters; Alyssa Brooke, Brittney Nicole; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Hall & Jones Funeral Home with Bethel Freewill Baptist Church officiating.  

Burial followed in the Calhoun Cemetery at Robinson Creek.  Visitation was on Wednesday from 11 AM until 9 p.m. at the funeral Home.  Evening services were conducted by Sidney Sensening at 7 p.m.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.hallandjones.com

Jeff Fyffe


Jeff Fyffe, age 62, of Flat Gap, died Wednesday, Nov. 6 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born Sept. 17, 1957 in Paintsville, to James Lowell and Laura Alice Blair Fyffe. He is preceded in death by his father, James Lowell Fyffe, and one son, Jeffrey Fyffe.

Jeff was the owner and operated Moore’s Body Shop for 40 years as auto body mechanic.

Surviving is his wife of 40 years, Corrinne Rae Fyffe; one daughter, Jennifer Estep; three sisters, Michelle Spence, Lola Curtis and Donna Caudill.

At Jeff’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral service.

All arrangements under the direction of the Paintsville Funeral Home.

Gladys Hughes


Gladys Bayes Hughes, age 86, of Dublin, Ohio, passed away Thursday, November 7, 2019.

A native of Paintsville, Gladys was a graduate of Oil Springs High School and Mayo Business College. She married Willis Franklin Hughes on September 17, 1952 together they owned and operated Hughes – Maico Hearing Aid Center in Lima, Ohio, for over 50 years.

Gladys is survived by children, Brenda Hughes, Donald (Sherri) Hughes and Tamara (David) Wise; brothers, Jack Bayes and Robert (Connie) Bayes; sister, Louise Jung; grandchildren, Jason (Maria) Morris, Melissa (Chad) Munoz, Danielle (Jackson) Briggs, Benjamin (Jenna) Hughes, Danny Wise and Matthew Wise; four great-grandchildren, Julia Munoz, Luke Munoz, Caleb Briggs, Isaac Briggs, Owen Briggs and Samuel Hughes; and numerous nieces and nephews.  

She was preceded in death by parents, Pete and Lula Bayes; husband, Willis Franklin Hughes; brothers, James, Dennis and Donald Bayes; sisters, Lorene McCool and Peggie Joyce Bayes.  

Gladys was a member of Northwest Presbyterian Church in Dublin.  She was the Past Worthy Matron of Ada Chapter #6 Order of Eastern Star and a Past Grand Deputy of OES District 26. She loved to worship the Lord, read, paint, and spend time with her family.  

The family gives special thanks to the staff of Brookdale Muirfield, where Gladys received loving care in her final months.  

The family received friends Monday, November 11, 2019 5-8 p.m. at the Tidd Family Funeral Home with Crematory, 5265 Norwich St., Hilliard, OH 43026, where the funeral service was held at 11a.m. Tuesday, November 12, 2019.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2019, 11 a.m. at the Phelps & Son Funeral Home Chapel for Justin Blake Stafford, 30, of East Point, who died Wednesday, Nov. 6 in Tennessee.

He was born July 14, 1989 in Paintsville, the son of Jill Stafford. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Everett and Helen Stafford.

Surviving in addition to his mother, are his fiancée, Keirah Slone of East Point; one daughter, Emily Sage Stafford of East Point; one uncle, Mark Stafford of Nicholasville; one cousin, Bill Stafford of Lexington.

Visitation will be Sunday, Nov. 10, 5-9 p.m. and Monday from 9 a.m.-9 p.m.

The service will be officiated by Aaron Penix, with burial in the Wells Cemetery in Paintsville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Emily Sage Stafford Fund in honor of her father, Justin Blake Stafford.

Beulah Trimble


Beulah Francis Trimble, age 89, of Barnetts Creek, died Wednesday November 6, 2019 at Mountain Manor of Paintsville.

She was born in Johnson County to Harry (Hack) and Carrie Blanton McKenzie in 1930. In 1950, she was married to William Linzie Trimble and to that union was born four beloved sons.

She was a member of the Rockhouse Freewill Baptist Church and a homemaker.

Beulah is preceded in death by her loving husband William; a son, David Randall “Randy” Trimble; five brothers, Willis McKenzie, Udell McKenzie, Bill McKenzie, Victor McKenzie and Charles McKenzie; and one sister, Peggy Cantrell.

Surviving are three sons, William Douglas “Doug” Trimble of Frankfort, Harry Daniel “Danny” (Kathy) Trimble of  Barnett’s Creek, and Stephen ”Steve” (Pam) Trimble of Van Lear; one brother, Jimmy McKenzie of Meally; three sisters, Phyllis Merritt and Ruth (Ernie) Branham, both of Michigan and Ann Salyer of Columbus, Ohio; five grandchildren Stephanie (Larry) Stambaugh of Staffordsville, David (Miranda) Trimble of Ashland, Josh Trimble of Frankfort, Andrew (Kristina) Trimble of London and Julie (Jeff) Slagle of Texas; and four great grandchildren Lindsay and Abbie Stambaugh and Noah and Jake Trimble.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 9 at 11 a.m. at the Paintsville Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at the Highland Memorial Park Cemetery at Staffordsville.

The family has requested that contributions can be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation by contacting the Paintsville Funeral Home at 606-789-5125.
