Virginia Osborne


Funeral services will be held Monday, Aug. 13, 11 a.m. at the Phelps & Son Funeral Home Chapel for Virginia L. “Jenny” Osborne, 63, of Auxier, who died Thursday, Aug. 9 at U.K. Medical Center in Lexington.

Mrs. Osborne was born Oct. 27, 1954 in Johnson County, daughter of the late Elza Pokie Webb and Rachel Smith Webb. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Osborne Jr.; one son, David Lee Osborne, one daughter, Christina Goble Hamilton; and several brothers and sisters.

Surviving are four sons, Billy Jo (Barbara) Osborne and Ervin (Dicie) Osborne, both of Auxier, and William Douglas Osborne and Merlin Osborne, both of Prestonsburg; two daughters, Elizabeth Osborne Hamilton and Whitney Osborne (Jarred) Kendrick, both of Prestonsburg; three brothers, Jimmy and Frankie Webb, both of Auxier, and David Webb of Tennessee; three sisters, Cora Greathouse of Auxier, Cynthia Greathouse of Van Lear and Roberta Jett of Ohio; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The service will be officiated by Mearl Music, with burial to follow in the Davidson Memorial Gardens at Ivel.

Arrangements under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home of Paintsville.

Rita Opfermann-



Rita C. Opfermann-Pelphrey, ag 91, formerly of Ida, Mich., died August 8, 2018 at the Little Sisters of the Poor, Sacred Heart Home in Oregon, Ohio. 

She was born July 23, 1927 in Monroe, Mich., to the late John Patrick and Mary Keefe. Rita was a 1946 graduate of Ida High School. She was a devoted and loving star-at-home wife and mother. Rita’s strong Christian beliefs helped her in nurturing her young family during her widowed years. Later on she employed at Ida Public School library, medical offices, Toledo Hospital and at the GM Plant in Toledo.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Ray Opfermann, and her second husband, Thomas Pelphrey; son, Gary Opfermann; sister, Mary Fix; brothers, George and John Keefe.

She will be greatly missed and remembered by her children and their spouses, Virginia (Richard) Weeman, Vicki (Dennis) Oberski, Bill (Rebecca Dare) Opfermann, Alan (Darla) Opfermann, Judy (Allen) Simmons, Thomas (Jane) Opfermann, Mary (Paul) Sopscak, Jim (Tammy) Opfermann, Susan Opfermann, Annette (Greg) Nusbaum, and John Paul Opfermann; step-children, Thomas (Carolyn) Pelphrey Jr., Wanda Lewis, Rebecca (David) Smith, Nancy (Mike) Dodgson, and Roxanne Pelphrey; 19 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Little Sisters of the Poor, Sacred Heart Home, 930 S. Wynn Rd., Oregon, OH 43616 with visitation on Sunday, Aug. 12 from 2-7 p.m., with recitation of the Rosary at 6:30 p.m. Funeral Mass on Monday, Aug. 13, 10:30 a.m. in the chapel.

The family wishes to acknowledge the wonderful care and love she received from all of the nuns and staff, and the many friendships she made with the residents.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Little Sisters of the Poor, Sacred Heart Home, 930 S. Wynn Rd., Oregon, OH 43616.
