William Lynn Castle, 63, of Wittensville, passed away Friday, Jan. 31, 2020.

William was born October 6, 1956 in Johnson County.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3, 2020 in the Jones-Preston Funeral Chapel.

Paul Daniel


Paul Daniel, 83, Paintsville, passed away on January 29, 2020 at his home in Preston Estates. He was born on April 11, 1936 to Roy and Cynthia McKenzie Daniel of Johnson County. Paul joined the Chandlersville Masonic Lodge #858 on March 1, 1958 and was a  62-year member. He served as Master of the Lodge in 1963 and Lodge Treasurer for many years. He attended Rockhouse Freewill Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Paul in preceded is death by his wife Dora May Hamilton Daniel and one daughter Teresa Wells. Survivors include two sons Jeffery Paul Daniel of Winchester and David Scott Daniel of Sitka; two daughters Cheryl Daniel Davis of Sitka and Shawn Daniel Gullett of Paintsville; one sister Betty Lemaster of Lawrenceburg; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 1, in the Paintsville Funeral Home Chapel. Larry Blair will officiate. A Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday evening at the funeral home. Burial will follow the funeral service at the Lakeview Memorial Cemetery at Staffordsville.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Chandlersville Masonic Lodge by contacting the Paintsville Funeral Home.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Paintsville Funeral Home.

Steven Goff


Steven Goff,  61, of Hilltop Road, Paintsville, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2020.

He was born in Pike County, on September 15th, 1958.

Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 29, 2020 in the Jones-Preston Funeral Chapel

Buddy Ray Osborne


Buddy Ray Osborne, 56, of Paintsville, passed away Tuesday, February 4, 2020 in Hazard.     

Per the request of Mr. Osborne there will be no public visitation or funeral service. Arrangements are under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home.

Anna Witten


Anna Ruth (Sturgill) Witten (“Ruth”), 84 of Paintsville,  passed away Sunday, February 2, 2020 at the Martin County Health Care Facility in Inez after an extended illness. She was born on July 4, 1935, and was a wonderful homemaker, mother, grandmother, and at times, caretaker of other children. Ruth was a loyal member of Barnett’s Creek United Baptist Church until her illness prevented her from attending.

Preceding her in death are her parents, Arzie and Della (Jenkins) Sturgill; two brothers, Earl and Eugene Sturgill; and one son-in-law, John Castle.

Ruth is survived by two daughter, Kathy Witten Castle of Sitka, and Tina Witten Gilley of Tampa, Florida; former husband, Hobert Witten of Sitka, one step-son, Hobie (Teresa) Witten of Sitka; four grandsons, Scott Castle and Eric Castle of Sitka, Nicholas Gilley of Tampa, and Tyler Witten of Sitka; one great-granddaughter, Danielle Castle of Sitka; two sisters-in-law, Cleatha Hall Sturgill of Stambaugh and Alberta Stambaugh Sturgill of Paintsville; four nieces and two nephews; a special cousin, Rose Marie (Sturgill) David; and a host of other family and friends.

A gathering of family and friends are welcome to join together after noon Wednesday at the Barnett’s Creek United Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at the Barnett’s Creek United Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Johnson County Memorial Cemetery at Staffordsville. Kenny Pelphrey and Jason Auxier will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home.
