Nora Blair

1932-2021

Nora I. (Green) Blair, 89, of Staffordsville, died Sunday, Sept. 5, 2021, in Mechanicsburg, Ohio.

She was born July 1, 1932, in Chandlersville, to the late Minuard L. Green and Clara (Barker) Green.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Blair Jr.; one son, Danny Lee Blair; one daughter, Sandra Kaye (Blair) Blanton; and one great-grandson, Colin Lucas Fraley; along with five brothers and five sisters.  

Nora is survived by one daughter, Lois Fraley, and her husband, Charles, of Mechanicsburg, Ohio; one sister, Clara Michaels; four grandchildren, Curt (Cindy) Fraley, Chris (Tracy) Fraley, Dustin (Katie) Blair, Anthony Dale; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.

Nora retired from American Standard. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and reading. She also loved her church and church family.  

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, Sept. 13, 2021, in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Blair Cemetery at Staffordsville. Jerry Colvin and Danny Williams officiated. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home of Paintsville.

Helen Bowen, 67, of Paintsville, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2021.

Elder Phillip Caudill

1944-2021

Elder Phillip H. Caudill, 77, of Oil Springs, died Friday, Sept. 3, 2021, at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center in Paintsville.

He was born Jan. 20, 1944, in Johnson County, to the late William A. Caudill and Chloie Belle (Trimble) Caudill.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Eldon C. Caudill.

Phillip is survived by his loving wife, Linda Blair Caudill; one son, Bill Caudill (Rhonda), of Ashland; one daughter, Christina Lemaster (Lonnie), of Sitka; one sister, Linda Lou Blair (Charles E.), of Oil Springs; one sister-in-law, Carole Caudill, of Oil Springs; four grandchildren, Montana Lemaster Vanhoose (Nicholas), Kaitlin Slone Howard (Zachery), Marcus Alan Caudill and Phillip Matthew Caudill; two great-grandchildren, Liam Howard and Lillian Howard. A host of nieces and nephews also survive.

Elder Phillip H. Caudill was baptized April 24, 1977, and became a member of the Little Paint Church. He became moderator at the Little Paint Church in 1988, and served for 33 years. He was also moderator at Barnetts Creek Church, Rockhouse Church, Oil Springs Church and Fannin Chapel Church. He was also assistant moderator at Cold Springs Church and Big Blaine Church. He will be sadly missed in the Paint Union Association and by all the brothers and sisters who knew him. He held revivals in all the churches of the Paint Union Association.

Phillip has only gone home, to be with the Lord Jesus Christ.

Phillip was a proud veteran of the United States Army.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 12, 2021, in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Caudill Family Cemetery at Oil Springs. David Trimble, Hershel Jude and Mitchell Spradlin officiated. Full military honors were conducted. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home of Paintsville.  

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Phelps & Son Funeral Home to assist with funeral expenses.

Patricia Conley

Patricia Jo Conley,  79, of Staffordsville, died Sunday, Sept. 12, 2021, at Hazard ARH.

She was born March 29, 1942, in Johnson County. She was the daughter of the late Raymond and Carol Horn.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Conley; and a half-brother, Timothy Seum. Patricia is survived by one son, Ronnie Allen Conley (Sherry), of Staffordsville; two daughters, Dana K. Borders  (James), of Staffordsville, and Jennifer Carol Brown, also of Staffordsville; two half-sisters, Sandra Fairchild and Mary Mitchell, both of Tennessee; five grandchildren, Katherine Nicole Borders, Amiee Denise Conley, Patrick Allen Conley, Emily Carol Brown and Nicholas Alex Brown; and her special dog, Beatty.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2021, in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Johnson County Memorial Cemetery, Staffordsville. Friends may visit the Phelps & Son Funeral Home anytime prior to the service on Wednesday. Lindsey Meade will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home.

Matthew Fannin

Matthew “Matt” Fannin, 39, of Offutt died Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at Jewish Hospital, Louisville.

Matt was born April 17, 1982, in Floyd County, son of Southie Fannin Jr. and the late Teresa Thompson Fannin.

He is survived by his fiance, Kayla Sexton; his father and step-mother, Southie Fannin, Jr. and Mistie Fannin; three children, Alexandria Fannin, Zachary Fannin and Caleb Ward; two brothers, Michael Ryan Fannin (Malena), of Charley, Southie Fannin III "Sy" (Reanna), of Paintsville; two step-brothers, Tyler Christopher Kestner (Emily), of Oil Springs, and Mason Colby Kestner, of Oil Springs; several nieces and nephews; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 13, 2021, in the Jones-Preston Funeral Chapel with Bobby Joe Spencer officiating. Burial followed at the Thompson Family Cemetery, Offutt.

Ronald Rohr

Ronald E. Rohr, 58, of Inez, formerly of Johnson County, died Friday, Sept. 10, 2021, at his home.

He was born June 17, 1963, in Phoenix, Arizona. He was the son of Juanita Hannah Lilly of East Point and the late Marvin Rohr.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Simon Lilly; one brother, Walter Rohr; and one sister, Doris Butcher.

He is survived by his mother, Juanita Lilly; his companion, Phillip Mills, of Inez; their baby, Petey; six brothers, Richard (Anna) Rohr, of Bristol, Ind., John (Sue) Rohr, of Prestonsburg, Jason (Sarah) Rohr, of East Point, and Terry Rohr, of Warsaw, Ind., Jaques (Danielle) Duquesne, of Florida, and Jean Duquesne, also of Florida; and three sisters, Diana (Jerry) Anders, of Orange, Texas, Jeanette (Alvaro) Martinez, of North Carolina, and Julienne Duguesne, of Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 16, 2021, in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Gethsemane Gardens, Prestonsburg.

Friends may visit the Phelps & Son Funeral Home from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m., Wednesday and until the time of service on Thursday. Judy Yunker will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home of Paintsville.

Alka Lucille Sparks, 68, of Paintsville, died Monday, Sept. 13, 2021, at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center in Paintsville.

She was born Feb. 22, 1953, in Johnson County, to the late John Smith and Anna Mae Morgan Smith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Sparks; one brother, Douglas Smith; and two sisters: Barbara Smith and Kathleen Estepp.

Alka is survived by three sons, John Meade, of Prestonsburg, Eckle Meade (Bonnie), of Paintsville, and Mike Sparks (Sue), of Prestonsburg; seven grandchildren, Tiffany Woods, Hayden Meade, Blake Spillman, Ryan Meade, Tommy Colvin, Katherine Caudill, and Ida Burchett; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service for Alka will be held at a later date to be announced by the family. There will be no public viewing or funeral at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home of Paintsville.
