Neva Mae Baker Bentley, 68, of Paintsville, passed away Saturday, July 18, 2020. Neva was born January 23, 1952 in Pike County. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 21, in the Jones-Preston Funeral Chapel. Burial followed in the RH Ratliff Cemetery, Shelbiana.  

Arrangements were under the direction of Jones-Preston Funeral Home.

Roger Fairchild

1984-2020

Roger Dean Fairchild, Jr., 36, of West Carrollton, Ohio, formerly of Lawrence County, passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at Kettering Medical Center, Kettering, Ohio.

Roger was born May 7, 1984 in Johnson County. Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Monday, July 20, in the Jones-Preston Funeral Chapel. Burial followed in the Thompson-Cox Cemetery, Charley.

Arrangements were under the direction of Jones-Preston Funeral Home.

James E. Hunt

1943-2020

James E. Hunt, 76, of East Point passed away Friday, July 17, 2020 at his residence.

Born October 14, 1943 in Grayson, he was the son of the late Ernest Hunt and Myrtle (Crum) Hunt. Mr. Hunt is survived by is wife, Barbara (Moore) Hunt; one son, James A. “Tony” Hunt and his wife, Kelli of Georgetown; one daughter, Amy Marie Turner and her husband, Allen of East Point; three grand daughters, Jacee Baker, Kendyl Baker and Harper Hunt also survive.

James was a Veteran of the United States Army and retired from CSX Railroad after 32 years of service. Funeral services were held at 11 Monday, July 20, 2020 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Gethsemane Gardens in Prestonsburg. Tommy Reed officiated. Chapter 18 D.A.V. of Auxier conducted full Military Honors at the funeral home.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home.

Jeffery Scott Maynard, 61, of Martin County, passed away Friday, July 10, 2020 at Three Rivers Medical Center in Louisa.

He was born July 21, 1958 in Pike County.

Funeral services were conducted at noon Wednesday, July 15, 2020 in the Jones-Preston Funeral Chapel. Burial followed in the Blackburn Family Cemetery, Meathouse, in Pike County.

Arrangements were under the direction of Jones-Preston Funeral Home.

Garry Meade

1950-2020

Garry Meade, 70, of Stambaugh, passed away Friday, July 10, 2020 at Highlands ARH.

He was born June 22, 1950 in Johnson County.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 15, 2020, in the Jones-Preston Funeral Chapel. Burial followed in the Caldwell Family Cemetery at Stambaugh.

Arrangements were under the direction of Jones-Preston Funeral Home.

Scarlett Murray

1950-2020

Scarlet Rowland Murray, 70, of Thelma, passed Monday, July 13, 2020 at Baptist Health, Lexington. 

Scarlet was born April 7, 1950 in Johnson County.

Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m., Friday, July 17, 2020 at Southside Freewill Baptist Church, Paintsville. Burial followed at Highland Memorial Park, Staffordsville.

Arrangements were under the direction of Jones-Preston Funeral Home.

Mary Williams

1946-2020

Mary Sue (Harmon) Williams, 74, of Oil Springs, passed away Thursday, July 16, 2020 at her residence.

She was born January 20, 1946 in Johnson County to the late Quill Harmon and Aretta Stapleton Harmon.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by three brothers: Charles Harmon, Quill Dickie Harmon, Thomas Dean “Harpo” Harmon; four sisters: Betty Smith, Neva Griffith, Pat Skiles, and Brenda Thompson.

Sue is survived by her husband, Elwood “Bill” Williams; five children: Anthony Alan Williams and wife, Jamie of Sanford, North Carolina, Paul Burchett and wife, Gaylena of Wittensville, Jeffrey Scott Williams and wife, Kimberly of Abingdon, Virginia, Melissa Williams Swartzlander and husband, Larry of Hilton Head, South Carolina, Michelle Leigh Lashelle of Baltimore, Ohio; and eight grandchildren along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Sunday, July 19, 2020, in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville. Paul David Coleman officiated.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home.
