Bessie Adkins

Bessie L. Wiley Haar Adkins, 97, passed to her heavenly home on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, to be reunited with family and friends who have gone before.

She was the youngest of 12 children born Oct. 29, 1925, belonging to Merida “Bud” Wiley and Carrie Stapleton Wiley, of Paintsville. She was their last surviving child.

She resided in Loris, S.Car., the last 20 years with her daughter, Lorene H Wright-Thompson. She retired from Big Sandy Community & Technical College, Paintsville, after 25 years of service. Her desires and joy was being with her children, grands and great-grands.

She is survived by her five children, Merida Lorene H. Wright-Thompson, of Loris, S.Car., Fred Haar, of Wilmore, Linda H. Mayo (Lanny), of Kaufman, Tex., Becky H. Brinkley (Raymond), of Suffolk, Va., and Millie Haar, of Frisco, Tex.; four grandchildren, Doug Sammons (Sylvia), of Houston, Tex., David Sammons (Tiffanie), of Mishawaka, Ind., Fred Haar, of Lexington, and Delisa James, of Lexington. She has five great-grandchildren.

She was a member of Loris First Baptist Church, in Loris, South Carolina.

Graveside funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, April 17, 2023, at the Dan Gambill Cemetery, Thelma, where interment followed. Arrangements were under the direction of Preston Funeral Home of Paintsville.

Charlotte Gannon

Charlotte Blevins Gannon, 56, of Thelma, died Friday, April 14, 2023, at UK Chandler Hospital in Lexington.

She was born in Indiana, March 4, 1967, the daughter of the late Edsel Eugene Blevins and Phillis Parks Blevins.

In addition to her parents, Charlotte was preceded in death by one brother, Eddie Blevins; and one sister, Donna O'Brian.

She is survived by her significant other, Nero Blevins Sr.; one son, Nero “Bert” Blevins Jr. and Alicia, of West Van Lear; two daughters, Tinena M. Jenkins, of Hager Hill, and Leslie Blevins, of Thelma; three brothers, Charles Blevins, of Ohio, James Bo Blevins, of Thelma, and Ernie Blevins, of Hager Hill; two sisters, Rhoda Blevins, of Wittensville, and Eugena Keeton, of Elizabethtown; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Charlotte loved her children so much.

She will be missed by everyone who knew her.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, April 18, 2023, in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with Jimmy Horne officiating. Burial followed at the Blevins Family Cemetery in West Van Lear.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that contributions be made to the Phelps & Son Funeral Home, (606) 789-8989, to assist with funeral expenses.

Pamela Gross

Pamela S. Gross, 62, of Paintsville, died Thursday, April 13, 2023, at Paintsville ARH.

She was born in Laurel, Md., Aug. 5, 1960, to Samuel Gross Sr. and Frances Pilkerton Gross.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Hoarce “Shorty” Robertson.

Pamela is survived by two daughters, Jessica Robertson and Danielle Robertson, both of Paintsville; one brother, Samuel Gross Jr., of West Van Lear; one sister, Betty Gross, of Paintsville; eight grandchildren, Tyler Robertson, Austin Robertson, Braxton Tharp, Allison Tharp, Kennedy Robertson, Macy Robertson, Nathan Robertson and Bradley Ratliff; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

A private graveside service will take place in the Richmond Cemetery, Paintsville.

Gail Franklin Hamilton, 69, of Wabash, Ind., died Saturday, April 8, 2023, in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Gilbert Music

Gilbert Lee Music, 83, of Nippa, died Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at his residence.

He was born in Johnson County, Oct. 27, 1939, to the late Beecher Music and Minerva Castle Music.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Randell Eugene Music; along with several brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years and 7 months, Helen Jean Staniford Music; one daughter, Rebecca Lee Music Baldwin, and her husband, James, of Nippa; one brother, Delbert “Gale” Music, and his wife, Joann, of Nippa; five grandchildren, Nathan Music, Holly Davis, Natalie Elkins, Dillon Baldwin and Ethan Music; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Gilbert was a minister and a faithful member of the Sitka Freewill Baptist Church for many years.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Friday, April 14, 2023, in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with Jim McKenzie and John Frank Meade officiating. Paulinda Shortridge

Paulinda Shortridge, 67, of Prestonsburg, died Monday, April 10, 2023, at the Prestonsburg Health Care Center.

She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, May 17, 1955, to the late Tom Handy and Ruth Webb Handy.

She is survived by one son, Mark Shortridge, and his wife, Beth, of Van Lear; one sister, Vicki Wells, of Prestonsburg; two grandchildren, Addison Shortridge and Ava Shortridge; a very special nephew, Tommy Wells; and a very special niece, Tracy Wells.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Friday, April 14, 2023, in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with Aaron Davis officiating. Burial followed at the Lakeview Memorial Cemetery, Staffordsville. Arrangements were under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home of Paintsville.
