The Williamsport Volunteer Fire Department hosted its annual Christmas appreciation dinner Saturday and presented plaques to three couples for their service to the department, in addition to hosting a meeting with Santa and helping kids get gifts through the Toys for Tots program.

The three couples honored at the dinner included Robert and Fornetta Elam, Bob and Donna Dutton and Clarence and Ellen Dutton, whose plaques thanked them for their “dedication, service and going beyond the call of duty.”

Children also had time to tour the facility, inspect fire trucks and even meet with Santa, who presented the children in attendance with gifts.

“It’s something we all like to do, you know, it gives all the firefighters and their wives and everybody a chance to get together and show our appreciation for all the hard work the guys put in throughout the year,” said WFD Fire Chief Calvin Daniels. “The kids enjoy it, if they want to look at the trucks, they can look at them and we give them a new toy every year, and give them some fruit and cotton candy and they seem to enjoy that stuff.”
