The 34th annual Van Lear Town Celebration is scheduled for next weekend.

The festivities kick off with a corn hole tournament Thursday, August 1.

On Friday, August 2 , everything picks up. According to “The Bankmule,” published by the Van Lear Historical Society, Icky’s diner will be serving hot dogs, nachos and merchandise, the Coal Miners’ Museum will be selling soup bean dinners, tours will be ongoing at the Loretta Lynn homeplace, the Jenny Wiley Lodge will host a Taekwondo demonstration at 4 p.m., Fraley’s Dog Training Services will show a K9 demonstration at 5 p.m., a second corn hole tournament will be held, and ghost tours will start in the evening. As always, live music and dancing will take place on the stage by the museum starting at 6 p.m., and guests are encouraged to bring a lawn chair if they wish.

On Saturday, August 3, the celebration wraps up in a big way with a turkey shoot at 8 a.m., a car show all morning at the Van Lear Freewill Baptist Church, kids games starting at 11, the annual parade at 2:30, more demonstrations, more corn hole, and more music beginning at 5 p.m.

Saturday will also feature the 9th annual Van Lear Idol, with signups starting at 4:30 p.m., and the skillet throw and hay bale toss contests starting at 7 p.m.
