Suspect in triple homicide released from hospital, jailed

A Paintsville man has been charged with three counts of murder and one charge of endangering a police officer stemming from a Sept. 9 incident.

Ronnie Pack, 21, of Depot Road, has been charged with murder in the deaths of of Paula Wells, 56, Richard Morman, 56, and Myrtle Renee Dorton (Pack), 36, who the warrant names as Ronnie Pack’s spouse. The documents state that Pack also committed the act of first-degree wanton endangerment when he raised his handgun towards Kentucky State Police Trooper Jason Dials during his arrest.

According to a statement from KSP, an ongoing investigation into how Pack received his injuries is underway. KSP, the statement said, has statewide jurisdiction and investigates officer-involved shootings throughout the Commonwealth as requested by local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. The statement said KSP is committed to being transparent while ensuring the integrity of the investigation.

Pack was released from medical care and served with the warrant at approximately noon on Sept. 12 and was booked into the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center at approximately 3:30 p.m.

Two of his victims’ funeral arrangements are being handled by Phelps and Son Funeral Home, according to the funeral home’s website.

According to her obituary, Wells was a mother of two.

Funeral services for Wells will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sep. 15 at the funeral home, with burial to follow in the Witten Family Cemetery at Van Lear. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sept. 14, and from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral on Sept. 15. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Phelps and Son Funeral Home to assist with funeral expenses.

According to her obituary, Dorton (Pack) was a mother of six (three daughters and three sons).

Funeral services for Dorton will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 15 in the chapel of the Phelps and Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Dorton Family Cemetery at Flat Gap. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sept. 14, and after 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral on Sept. 15. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Phelps and Son Funeral Home to assist with funeral expenses.

No funeral arrangements had been announced as of the afternoon of Sept. 12 for Morman.
