The Paintsville High School Alumni Association made three donations to the Paintsville Independent Schools Board of Education at the board’s regular meeting Monday, totaling approximately $10,500.
The PHSAA presented three checks, one for $5,000 to go toward the acquisition of Chromebooks for students and two checks for $2,750 each toward Paintsville High School and Paintsville Elementary School Academic Teams, to help fund trips to international competitions in Community Problem Solving.
“We just wanted to present the Paintsville school system with some checks,” said PHSAA representative Lynne Mullins. “We’ve worked hard and we’ve made some money for you all, we have a $5,000 for you, to go toward your Chromebooks, you said you try to spend $10,000 a year (on them), so hopefully this will help. Then, we have two checks for $2,750 each to the two academic teams that are going to the international competition, to help them with their expenses … we hope that it will help you all. Our purpose is to preserve, protect and promote the Paintsville Independent School system, and we want you all to help us, too. The Alumni Association is open to all alumni, so please encourage people to join us and help us.”
PHS CmPS coach Dawn McNew and Matthew Tackett, a member of the PHS CmPS team were present to receive the checks alongside PES and PHS Principals Katie Webb and Tiffany Austin, respectively.
“We’re excited to get to go,” Webb said at the meeting. “We’re going to Amherst, Massachusetts the first week in June … it’s such an opportunity, thank you.”
McNew also offered thanks, saying “we’re so grateful, thank you.”
Austin took to social media that evening to thank the association.
“Thank you to PHSAA for their thoughtful donation and their continual work to preserve, protect, and promote the Paintsville Independent Schools system,” Austin said.
The Paintsville Independent Schools Board of Education meets on the first Monday of each month at 5:15 p.m. in the district’s board office on Second Street, and all meetings are open to the public.
