The Paintsville Independent Schools Board of Education held a special called meeting on the evening of Thursday, Dec. 19.

During the meeting, which lasted less than two minutes, board members made a motion to extend the current contract of Superintendent David Gibson.

Chairmen Ken Fuller requested that the other board members “approve the contract between the Paintsville Independent Schools Board of Education and our Superintendent David Gibson, which is really an extension, as presented.” There was no discussion of the motion and it was favored and approved by all members.

According to Superintendent Gibson, the special called meeting was announced to him less than two hours before it began.

Regarding the extension of his contract for another four years, Gibson told Paintsville Herald Staff, “I am honored that our board of education has entrusted me with a new contract. We have made incredible strides in continuing or rich traditions of providing one of the best educational experiences for our students at our high school and elementary school. This is do to the incredible work that teachers do everyday for our kids.”
