Paintsville PD hosts ‘Shop with a Cop’

Paintsville Police, their spouses and volunteers helped host a Christmas party and take dozens of Johnson County kids shopping on Saturday.

The Paintsville Police Department hosted its annual Shop with a Cop event on Saturday, throwing a party for 23 local children before taking them each shopping.

“I get the biggest enjoyment out of doing this,” said Assistant Chief Danny Smith. “I love it. Right now I’ve got a big smile on my face, and I can’t wait to go shopping. Makes me feel like a kid again. I’m blessed to be able to do this.”

Santa Claus helped distribute gift bags during the midday lunch party. The event would not be possible, Smith said, without the help of a myriad of donors and volunteers who helped raise the funds starting as early as July.

“There are too many to name,” Smith said. “From individuals to businesses, to doctors, lawyers ... we were blessed this year with the donations from everybody. I would like to go through and thank everybody, but it would be an all-day job.”
