Kentucky State Police said they have opened a murder investigation in Johnson County.

The incident, according to a statement from KSP Post 9, took place at a residence on Ky. 825 in Oil Springs. Following information about a possible deceased female at the residence, troopers investigating the case found Mandy Lemay, 27, deceased from a gunshot wound.

The investigation, the statement said, has led to the arrest of Paul Lemay, 50, of Oil Springs, and his being lodged in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center on one charge of domestic murder.

According to Lemay’s Dec. 17 arrest citation, “Paul Lemay stated that he intentionally killed his spouse at his residence.”

The case remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police Post 9 Det. Jason Merlo.
