Kentucky State Police said detectives are investigating this week after a man was found dead in a pond at the Paintsville Golf Course.

Post 9 Public Affairs Officer William Petry has confirmed the identity of the man as William Blevins, 29, of Paintsville.

Petry said more information in the case is pending the results of an autopsy and toxicology screening which took place Monday in Frankfort. As of now, the case is being labeled only a death investigation.

According to Paintsville Mayor Bill Mike Runyon, the body was discovered by a golfer near hole 11, who reported it to the course’s pro shop.

Runyon said Paintsville Police were called to the scene, along with the Johnson County Coroner’s Office and later Kentucky State Police. Runyon said course officials have been working closely with law enforcement to assist with their on-scene investigation.

The investigation is ongoing, a statement from KSP said.
