Johnson Central High School claimed another district title over the weekend, with Paintsville High School joining them in the top three.
JCHS teams took first in quick recall and in future problem solving, with Paintsville runners up in the FPS competition.
In individual assessments, JCHS students Zoe Castle, Austin Cantrell and Blayne Boone took first, second and fourth, respectively, in mathematics. JCHS swept the top three spots in science with JT Dials, Peyton Sergent and Hannah Skaggs. In social studies, Brandon Fairchild and Austin Cantrell finished first and second with Bryce Fletcher fourth, all of JCHS. In arts and humanities, JCHS swept another top three, with Megan Owens, Caree Meek and Chrystalen Stambaugh, while Paintsville’s Madison Webb placed fifth. Only in composition did a student from Johnson County not claim first, with Sarah Thompson representing JCHS in second and Taylor Stumbo of PHS in third.
That left the final standings with JCHS on top with 77 points to 29 from Sheldon Clark High School, 10 from Paintsville and seven for Piarist School.
KAAC Governor’s Cup Regionals will be held Feb, 11 for FPS and composition and February 16 for other assessments and the quick recall tournament.
