Johnson Central High School is once again bound for the state Governor’s Cup competition, winning the Region 15 competition held this Saturday. Paintsville High School tied for fifth place overall among the 13 schools represented, alongside Shelby Valley High School.
With wins in the quick recall tournament and Future Problem Solving contest, and numerous students placing in individual written tests, JCHS put together 64.5 total points in the overall standings. Second place Pikeville High School amassed 16.5, followed by Sheldon Clark High School with 14 and Paintsville and Shelby Valley with 8 points each.
The Paintsville team also finished second in Future Problem Solving.
Floyd Central High School, Belfry High School, Prestonsburg High School and Phelps High School also earned points with team and individual placements, while Betsy Layne High School, East Ridge High School, the Piarist School and Pike County Central High School were also represented Saturday.
This marks the 14th consecutive Governor’s Cup Region 15 title for JCHS, a streak that dates back to 2006.
