A Paintsville native has joined the The Paintsville Herald as a staff writer.

Reagan Coburn, of Thelma, a 2009 graduate of Paintsville High School and 2017 graduate of Eastern Kentucky University, moved back to the area in January and said she is excited to the join the staff. Coburn holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and minored in Asian Studies and Religion.

Coburn said she has long aspired to work in journalism.

“Thirteen-year-old me would be proud of the direction my life has taken towards journalism,” Coburn said. “In an age of misinformation, I’m grateful for the opportunity to shed light on truth in our community.”

Coburn is a mother of two and serves as secretary of the Paintsville/Johnson County Garden Club.

Paintsville Herald Publisher Jeff Vanderbeck said Coburn’s addition to the staff, which also includes Staff Writer Waylon Whitson, also a native of Paintsville, adds to the newspaper’s ability to cover Johnson County.

“We are continually working to remain as the most consistent and credible source for local news, sports and information,” he said. “Reagan will help us continue to accomplish that mission.”
