Auxier DAV funds clothes for area schools

Pam Tackett, Family Resource Youth Service Center coordinator for Flat Gap Elementary, stopped for a photo with the members of the Auxier-based DAV Chapter #18 who paid for $500 worth of clothes for her school’s children in need, as well as for six other Johnson County schools.

The Auxier post of the Disabled American Veterans has used funds raised throughout the year to help stock the shelves at Family Resource Youth Service Centers around Johnson County.

The funds, veteran Robert Trador said, were raised by roadblocks right here in Johnson County, with the intent of giving back to the community they serve.

“That’s what it’s for. It’s not our money, we want no part of it, we’re a nonprofit,” Trador said.

Each school received $500 from the DAV for which the schools’ Family Resource Youth Service Center directors shopped based on the specific, existing needs of students in their schools.

Trador said that in the past, with more donations coming in, they had been able to pass along $1,000 to each of the seven schools being covered, but that times have been tough for everyone, creating a greater need with less money coming in.

The volunteer work of the DAV is year-round. For more information or to join, call Commander Danny Shepherd at, (606) 793-4842.
